Well, after I get a job and the money comes in a little easier but this is what I'm thinking:

    Case:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005B28DPG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

    PSU:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G0WPLK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

    Motherboard:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056G10WK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

    RAM:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CRSM4I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

    CPU:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UBNKWO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

    Graphics:

Already have my graphics card, bought it about a week ago to run in this machine till this build was complete, but it doesn't fit right, so it's just waiting.

The purpose of this build would be to play some of the games that I have now, that I can only run on my laptop, not intended to play many of the newer games, I have a PS3 for that, and to run a few VM to play around with Linux, again so I don't have to drag the laptop out.

I have some questions about this build too, the motherboard says it supports
The RAM I had picked out is SDRAM, but it comes up under the frequently bought together section. Would this RAM work?

Second question, has anyone here ever heard of the company that makes this case? I love the look of the case and all, but I've never heard of the company and it has some reviews that are making me hesitant.

Overall, what do you all think?

Nope, won't work. Probably misabeled, as SDRAM hasn't been sold for years, except places that deal with old parts.

Edit: Checked your link. It is poorly labeled and will work fine. Typically you don't see DDR and SDRAM in the same sentence, although technically it is all SDRAM.

    Thank you, Adry.
I'm just gonna use my current HD, I think it's 120Gb, and I might either put Windows 7 Pro x64 or Windows 8 on it haven't decided yet.

Why? This system won't use more than 300W unless you overclock it. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

That Corsair 650W PSU comes from 2 different makers, 1 is better than the other (it's very hard to track down the real makers for most PSU's, quality variation can be huge). If you want a quality PSU, stick to Seasonic/XFX.

The case might be ok if you like flimsy.

You may be somewhat disappointed by the gfx card; the GT640 comes in 3 flavours: 128bit DDR3, 192bit DDR3 and a DDR5 version; yours is the lower spec.

I was concerned about the case for that reason, so I may swap that out for a different one.

I didn't know that, that graphics card came in different flavors, but it (according to videos, and some other documentation that we had found ) will do what I want it to do which is to play some older games I have.

I built a desktop a few months ago. First one I built. Others here know much more about performance issues than me so I won't even open my mouth about that.

What I did find helpful was:

I shopped TigerDirect and NewEgg. I ended up going though TigerDirect because they were cheaper but NewEgg had much better reviews of the individual parts. It might be helpful to check them out if you can match the Amazon parts at NewEgg.

I'm cheap so I didn't really have issues with doing rebates. I ended up getting $80 in rebates (40 in actual checks and 40 in Amex Credit Cards).

I will vouch for the TD rebate system. It took about 10 weeks but I received every one of them.

The two things I don't like about the machine are...the power supply fan is NOISY (maybe they all are though) and having to choose an operating system. It sucked for me because I never had used anything newer than XP.

Maybe someday I'll get used to Win8 but you might be wiser than me in going with Win7.
