   anyone know of an excellent AVI./mpeg player. i'm looking mainly for frame by frame control in other words complete control.

   You can try PowerDVD or WinDVD. I'm not sure if those have the features you want (I use Media Player Classic or bsplayer, which don't have those features), but they're more likely to than most since they're commercial.
