I hate to sound harsh but get rid of nVidia Firewall please, I have an ASUS board too and that thing is evil. As to a good torrent client, I like utorrent. I always get a good download speed for *nix apps.

I agree. uTorrent has never done me wrong. Personally, I like the older releases (like 1.6.1). They don't require full installation and are more of a standalone application. As to the nVidia firewall problem: I know that uTorrent has very flexible firewall settings and between the firewall and uTorrent, you should be able to work it out. I found this in the uTorrent forums:
http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=12459 Also, it seems the nVidia firewall is part of the chipset software, so uninstalling your chipset software may be the only way to completely remove it. From the little bit of research I've done, it seems that nVidia has discontinued the firewall and it's no longer bundled into the current chipset software. So visit your motherboard maker's web site, check the chipset download to make sure it doesn't contain the firewall, then download and install it after removing the current software. If the firewall is still included, just be sure to not install it when installing the new chipset software. If your motherboard maker doesn't have updated software (it should), then go directly to nVidia and grab the latest compatible nForce software.

It's just a type of file sharing method.
It is basically when you upload at the same time that you are downloading. There are some other basic vocabulary with torrents
Peers is the one I usually worry about (that's how many people you're downloading off of)

Thanks eeeediot for the reply being new and trying to catch up and lingo is a job in itself I've learned to be good at googling, now when you file share what if the file you are sharing has an infection do you recieve it too?

yes, you would be infected. As long as it's not a worm, you should be fine if you haven't opened the file yet, as worms are self propagating. You should just run a virus scan to make sure that there isn't a trojan because trojans are kind of "trap" that make you click on it and then stuff happens. Anyways, if you're not doing anything illicit you should be fine.
