Hello, and boy and I glad you folks are here :wave

The night before last I was ending my day off reading a few Photoshop blogs and one had some awfully cute animal icons listed as freebies. Since I know the blog and have trusted the download source for years (deviantart) I wasn't that concerned about going to check them out. After downloading one zip and clicking to access the next page, I noted what looked like a pdf open and close flashing quickly across the screen.

[Since the free area of deviantart is ad-based, I figure it came across from some of the lower quality ads they seem to be allowing. They were emailed about this.]

Stopped what I was doing, located the zip and ran AVG where Skynet popped it's ugly head up, because I always scan for rootkits.

I tried searching Skynet from Google at that point and got redirected, so I disconnected from the Internet and ran a full AVG scan.

AVG apparently couldn't clean it, so using hubby's computer I started searching for an answer, found Kaspersky free trial recommended by some and popped that on. No Joy.

Looked further and found you guys - yeay!

Read the pages "READ & RUN ME FIRST", printed them, downloaded the scans, followed directions and finally I am done.

The only thing odd that happened was the computer rebooting (I went to the ladies room) before the "Preparing Log Report" screen appeared.

Logs are attached. Appreciate the time you'll put into them. I'll wait for the go ahead before venturing out on the Web on that computer.

I would appear as though the scans took care of the malware. The main problem you have now is that you are running two AV programs!
VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware"
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009"

Uninstall one!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.

If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)

Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required

"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u

Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.

This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.

You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip

If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:

Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.

Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
