Hello folks. Just stumbled onto this site, quite informative. :)

I have a question regarding my CD-RW drive/Floppy disk. First off, I am running a 6 year old HP PC, Windows XP home, quite well maintained. A few days ago I ripped a CD using the latest iTunes and shortly after it finished copying, my CD-RW drive randomly started to open and close along with my floppy drive constantly trying to read nothing.

This completely slows down my computer since it tries to auto-read every second. Now I notice that imapi.exe along with 3-5 rundll32.exe's appear each time my computer goes haywire. I've tried using various malware, spyware, and trojan removers (The top ones listed on this site), but they cannot find anything. Google hasn't been that kind to me either.

Is this a virus? Or has my disk drive reached it's last days? I'm not that computer savvy, so hopefully I explained this properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

First off, Welcome to MG! :major

Lets try this first. Go to my computer, right click on the blank are, click Properties, go to the Hardware tab, then click device manager.
Now, expand the CD\DVD Rom Drives option in the tree. Right click your CD drive, click disable, click yes, then reboot. Does it still do it?

I'll try that as soon as I get home from work. That seems interesting, thanks!

No problem. This will tell me if it's a problem with the software or the hardware.

May be needing a driver re-installation or update?

That's what I was thinking. But, if it's a broken component, at least we'll save the time that we would be spending tracking down drivers.

Thought that was the direction you were thinking.
Why my response was a question.
