I used to use the free version of Diskeeper. But since XP doesn't fragment nearly as much as 98/NT/2000, now I just use the built-in defrag.

XP is using a lite version of diskeeper.

I personally use Perfectdisk from raxco. I've owned the professional version for quite a few years now. I've also tried diskeeper and o&o in the past.

My personal favorite free defrag program (though it can be slow, but does a thorough job) is mydefrag:

Whatever you do, pick one and stick with it. Not a good idea to run multiple defrags.

Used to be a much larger issue before the advent of these mega-sized hard drives. Twelve years ago, even 30 gig was considered big. And before that it was always a balancing act between HD space and programs/data loaded on it, and keeping it under 85% full so you could even defrag.

Now, 150 gig is small, I have a lappy with a 287 gig HD, 251 free, also very modest by today's standards. I just rely on the Win7 defrag utility. Puter boots in about 45 sec., very snappy in opening programs. I find that managing your autoruns is a lot more important.

But whatever, choose one and stick with it, or you can create more problems than if you never defragged at all. :)

Using O&O on some and Defraggler on others.
No problems, but O&O seems a bit more thorough.
