I have used the purchased version of Diskkeeper, not the lite version. The Professional Edition, however I do not find that it is doing the job anymore. And thus I am asking if anyone out there has experience with other Defrag programs.
I am not necessarily looking for a free one. Simply one that is very good and does the job consistently.
    Thankyou :)

Concur with Star17. O&O seems to me to do a very satisfactory job and has the advantage of being able to be set up so as to defrag and close down the computer on competion. Very happy with it and my ageing grey box has worked a lot faster since using O&O.
    Cheers

What OS are you using and explain why you thing its not doing its job?

If you are using NTFS it doesnt defrag to a contigious lump it will have gaps or blocks not with the rest of the files, this is by design.

I to use O&O and find that using Access defrag option the best and with NTFS and having my pagefile on another HD I dont need to defrag too much as O&O will background defrag when pc is in idle state.

Are these Defrag programs better than the one in windows or do people download a different one when the have problems with the Original one. What's the difference with Windows defrag and others.

perfectdisk, optimizes your file layout, for faster bootup, and it seperates rarely modified files, from those that change often, so subsequent defrags are much faster. I own O&O and Perfectdisk, both are good programs, but I think perfectdisk is slightly better, because of the boot time it saves, and the defrag time it saves.

and also Moni ... I may suggest that if you uninstall 'Diskeeper'' there is a possibilty that you may knacker the Win XP defrag prog as well as both are made by the same company, i did it once and it took part of the Win defrag with it.. Incidentally I am a 0+0 user and find that OK.. :)

I've seen the same thing as the above poster. A customer uninstalled it and blew away the built in defragger, too.

    I use O and O as well.

Thanks for the replies, I have used the 30 day trial of Perfect Disk 7, and am extremely satisfied.

Am going to purchase it and feel confident that it is doing its work and i don't have to frequently Defrag as i eventually did with Diskkeeper Pro.

Seemed like Diskkeeper was a "make work" project!!!!!!!

I've never had any problems with Diskeeper. What were you running into? Since you already have it, why not just get it debugged instead of spending more money (my philosophy, ha!). You can try their Tech Support page.

I gave the program to a tech friend of mine who uses O & O or Perfect Disk 7 and he found the same problems that I encountered.
It starts off defragging ok and then as you work a few days on your computer and analyze before you install a new program you find that the hard drive is badly defragmented more and more frequently.
