    Hey guys,
I have a similar problem to a previous post, however i looked through the thread and I wasnt able to fix my problems with the same steps. I stupidly clicked on a link to download codecs and instead got a number of nasty viruses. I removed one, but I've found there are still some left. I'm going to go through the read and run me, and then I will post the logs.
Thank you everyone at Major Geeks,
    you are all life savers.

The only difficulty I had was disabling symantec antivirus.

Here is the MGtools log zip
    Thank you again.

    Hi and welcome.

The versions of SUPERantispyware and MalwareBytes that you have are out of date. Please uninstall them, download the current versions (which you can link to from the R&R) let them update, and run scans with both. Attach the logs they generate into your next reply. In the meantime I will review your logs and get back to you with a set of instructions as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

    Hey there

I see that you are using an outdated version of MGTools.exe (11/25/2008)

Please go to this link Using MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe using the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run the new MGTools.exe and attach the logs it generates--> (C:\Mglogs.zip) into you next reply.

    Thanks
    kes

Please go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following old version of Java:

    • Java(TM) 6 Update 11

Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    Now let's try this:

    Using GooRedFix

Let me know how things are running now.

    Thanks
    kes

    1) Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it
(make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Windows\system32\knight.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data\ghH6NSCmtt.gif
    C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data\ghH6NSCmyy.gif
    C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data\ghH6NSCmnn.gif

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{6d04870a-739e-11dc-a007-00037ae894fa}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3014/3035535531_512f04c6a2_o.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    2) Do you have a G Drive?

    3) Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

    • C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    • C:\Documents and Settings\David\Local Settings\TEMP

    4) Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    5) Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

    Hello.
    1) I'll attach the gooredfix log, and combofix log to this post.

    2) I don't have a G drive, except when I insert a USB. Why?

    3) Ok I did this

    4) I'll attach the logs to this post

    5) Combofix asked me if I wanted to update the program, and I clicked yes. My computer seems to be running as it was before I got the viruses. There are no pop ups or redirections of websites, however I'm a bit worried about sinister things i've heard of, like people stealing my private information or whatever? Also, I'm just curious, so if you don't have the time to answer this then don't worry. What was the function of the files that you asked me to delete with combofix?

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

hello, I did the fixME.reg, and it was successful.
However something has happened to my computer (prior to this). When i tried to log into my profile this morning it first told me that the profile was faulty or did not exist, and now all of my profile settings are gone, and it keeps trying to load microsoft office professional Edition 2003 when i try to use word etc. My desktop image has changed, and so forth. =-(

The reset of my settings doesn't appear to be a major problem though.. Just lost stuff that was on the desktop

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
