Google Chrome abusing RAM

Hi,

I've recently noticed Google Chrome is hogging all my memory, just now I had 6 tabs open (facebook, youtube, gmail, mixcloud, beatport and majorgeeks) and it was eating up 7GB of RAM.

I find this very unusual. I've tried to re-install, check if updated etc... but it just seems too extreme to be using so much ram.

Is it normal for Chrome to hog so much memory?

Win7 64bits
AMD FX 8 Core 4.0Ghz
Gigabyte 990 FXA-UD3
Asus Radeon R9 270 OC Edition
Corsair Vengeance DDR 3 2x8GB

I've tried looking in the built-in task manager, it doesn't add up. Which is why I find it strange. In the built-in task manager shows it's using around 2GB, yet when I close Chrome it frees up from 7GB to 10GB.

I do notice a slight lag when trying to open pages, click on links or just scrolling up/down. It does not really hinder my computer in a drastic way, I just feel like Chrome is over-using my ram too excessively...

 

if you have extensions in google chrome they use up ram aswell. I have found that firefox is better browser for low usage on memory than google chrome.

 

Keep in mind unused ram is wasted ram.

That said, Facebook is the likely culprit, as others have noticed massive ram usage on that page. Which makes sense, these are quite literally web applications, not static HTML sites.

My computer doesn't slow down until I have ~ 50 tabs open (yes I keep opening new ones instead of reusing). That is on 8GB of ram on my workstation. It takes more tabs than I will ever use to slow down my home machines.

 

I just want to point out if you really worried about memory usage you can download the giveaway from here wise care 365 and you can clean out your memory usage from there and it might improve your computer proformance.
