google chrome strage behaviour

i bought a new laptop today. one of the first things i did was install chrome. it worked fine. i then tried to install zone alarm. the laptop froze mid installation and i pushed the power button to force a restart.

i restart the laptop, IE works, Chrome does not. so i uninstall chrome and try to reinstall it. now i get the error message: 0x80072efd when i try to download chrome.

also i cannot install zone alarm because now it says i need service pack 1. (there was no mention of this the first time installation). it does not appear on the list of installed programs either.

oh, and turning off the firewall did not make it possible to install chrome.

please help me!

interesting, i just tried spotify. it downloaded/installed fine but says a firewall is blocking access to stream music.

 

solved it with a zone alarm removal tool

 

i will be using a different firewall as i need one that will work with windows 7 64-bit.
