I know everyone probably knows this, but I am slow:heli but I just got Vist Home Premium about 1.5 months ago, and wasn't very impressed with it's built in side bar, then.... I discovered google desktop, and all I can say is goodbye Vista sidebar and hello google.

anybody else have a opinion? Do you think I am missing something? Is this common knowledge?

Don't get me wrong I like Vista, it's just I found a sidebar thats better that's all, I am not trying to be a Vista troll or anything.

I kinda like the Vista sidebar, it saves installing something else and their are many gadgets available, with more coming each week, it will take time for folk to program new gadgets as Vista is reletively new against Google Desktop.

My current layout ( KISS orientated ) ;)

I looked at Googles DT but it didnt have some of the gadgets I could get for Vista, maybe I didnt look hard enough for these but as the Vista Gadget site had them I got lazy.

But as you say it works for you ( no trolling here I see as you have valid points from a user ) and thats all that matters, its nice to have choice :)

@Halo: WTF is that picture of?

I just don't really have a need for anything they offer in either one so I guess that's what makes me not care for them.

Ah that is album cover to Fabric 17 ( mixed by Akufen ) with some strangeass creature, snake, winged, lion thing!!!

Yes if you have no need for any of them its easily turned off and one of the many choices we have as some will like various options and some not. I think the main thing I like is my desktop is now clean as I can have the HDs, DVD and USB drives all accessable by the drives gadget, I can have common used apps in the App Launcher gadget, the others I could so without.

I like that configuration Halo, think I will put my drives like that. Very handy. :)

BTW, I found a fix awhile back that prevents the "shading" of the wallpaper when using the sidebar. Just can't find it right now.

Probably lost it when I installed Vista, but it is out there. ;)

Its a great tool Steve ( if you dont have it I can email it to you ) all you do is double click the drive icon and it opens the respective drive.

LMAO on loosing stuff, I do that all the time :)
