Tibbs, think they ment, "use google search as a spellcheck" over using online or paper dictonary!?!

What I dont get is whats the WTF option for?

and at time YES I have used Googles seach box as a quick spellcheck, but now have the site they use as a spellchecker http://www.answers.com/ bookmarked, funnily enough used it yesterday while researching angiogenesis and VEGF.

Google toolbar has a built in spell checker so maybe that is what the poster was referring to?

And on that note..I also don't get the WTF poll option...

I wished yesterday it was Star, I was hit with that, first meeting of the day and looked at my boss and went HUH! Then it was a 2hr readup on said topic as new drug trial aims at that process.

LMAO ~ I resemble that

I'm thinking the WTF option is for people like me and Sgt. Tibbs who didn't know what the heck the original poster was on about.

But now it's been explained, yeah, I've used it a couple fo times to check on spelling, but more to check on a meaning of a word or its origin.

  16. evilflame2

    evilflame2 Private E-2

the spell check option is when you type a word incorrectly and google says "did you mean Insert word here"

for example if you search for the word "yourg" it asks if you mean "young"

i should have explained better and not called it spellcheck sorry

and the wtf is for people who don't know what it is

It just doesn't seem practical to me to have to go to google and type in a word to see if google has a suggestion for how to spell it. Especially not when there's www.dictionary.com right there just waiting for you to use it. ;)

The most pratical solution if you're using IE is ieSpell, and for Opera it's Aspell.

Don't use FireFox, but that has spelling extensions.

ieSpell is great in that it adds a spell check button in the message box on sites that use vB, like this place.

I also have the Google Toolbar which has a spellchecker, but the other solutions are neater and simpler.

No it's not, but you don't have to.

Google Toolbar has a spellcheck feature, which can also be set to Autofix, or you right-click on the highlighted error for a list of possible suggestions.

It's still not as quick and easy as browser extensions.

It can also be Welcome To Finland.

I use Google for that once in a while. Don't need spell checkers all that often, but for something exotic, that Outlook doesn't recognize, if I've got a browser open (usually) I'll type it into the Google bar and usually get a correct hit. Just used it today to find the proper spelling for Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It's quicker than going to a website for spelling, and usually gets it right.

I don't use Google Toolbar (I still remember when it was spyware, and see no need for it), nor do I use any of the spell check programs. Much like G.T., I rarely need to check spelling, and if I do, I just use dictionary.com.

I use the Google Toolbar spell checker quite a bit.

But I do not use Google it's self as a spell checker.

google has various other features as well as as spell check , for example there is a "define" feature.

I'll try and find a list of google commands for you all =]

    Par Example.

    Anyway enjoy.
