    Hello,

I was thinking of putting Google Earth on one or both of my computers. I see that the latest version of Google Earth is 5.x and a beta, and I'm not too keen on running beta software. At filehippo.com, I see that a stable version, 4.2.025 is available there.

So, any tips or words of wisdom about Google Earth? Anything I should know? The desktop is an HP running Windows Media Center Edition 2002, SP2. It is a little over 3 years old. The laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad, running Windows XP pro.

Does Google Earth 'phone home' all the time to look for updates? If so, is that a feature a person has some control of? I prefer to check for updates manually, rather than have a program do it automatically.

    Thanks.

Well, I would check out the wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Earth entry and the site http://earth.google.com/ for more information. Most applications have settings about updates and they usually won't update to beta versions automatically, only stable releases. Anyways, always check the application's home site for the latest version, as download sites can have old versions.
