ok, this is a first for me. i googled something ("A"), then googled something unrelated ("B"), whereupon my results had a few hits for the FIRST mixed in! that is, results like:

    B
    B
    A
    B
    A
    A
    B
    B
    B
    B
    B
    B

by page 2, it was completely "B" results, but how did those "A"s get in there in the first place!

honestly, i've never seen this before. anyone here have?

Not sure I have seen the same as you observed, but I have noticed inconsistencies with Google results recently. For instance the top results being all on the same domain name, with actually very little relevance to my actual search.

How do you search - directly from the Google site, or from a toolbar (like the search bar in Firefox)? Sometimes the search results appear to be different, depending where you start the search.

oh, yeah, i had an old thread here somewhere asking about exactly what you describe. i'd googled something innocuous like, i dunno, "green screen", say, and got 127 results all for coffee filters! or quoting shakespeare.

and all ONE LINE LONG. that's was consistent.

never DID figure that out! :(

i can provide a concrete example (of my OP, not the PW followup) -- i just googled something with "youtube" appended ("starships youtube", say; i forget) followed by "macedonia wiki". whereupon 24 of the 25 results were YOUTUBE VIDEOS involving macedonia!

googling it anew in a fresh window (tab), there wasn't even ONE. so yeah, google was hanging onto the "youtube" somehow, essentially searching on "macedonia wiki YOUTUBE".

    :confused

    can others reproduce this?

I didn't get one YouTube in the list. They were mostly Wikipedia some wikitravel, wikidot and wikiquote. While I was on the page with all the "Starship youtube" listed, I just typed in macedonia wiki and clicked search. The page refreshed with all the Wikipedia(s) listed, no youtube(s). On the first five or six pages any way.

    That was my result exactly.
    Do you have a Google+ account? I don't
Going to Search Settings I see Personal results which I have set to Do not use personal results
Clicking on the link to Personal results states:
Just a guess but if you have a Google+ account and are logged in then it might be (artificially) assuming that you still want YouTube vids, basically a search within a search type thing.

If you don't have a Google+ account or Use personal results enabled then I don't know.
Just another "That's weird :confused <shrug>" moment in the world of computers I guess

i just tried from scratch: "starships youtube" -- whole lotta videos and one link ABOUT the video; "macedonia wiki" -- whole lotta wikis, nary a video amongst them. so it's not even reproducible for ME!

yeah, i guess it's just one of those *shrug* moments. normally, i'd assume i'd mistyped or misread something, but this is the 4th or 5th time i've noticed it this week alone.

    i don't have G+, fwiw.
