Google Sketchup causes computer to hang

I am using Windows XP with Google sketchup 7. Graphic card: Nvidia 8600GT. however, the moment I double click on the the google sketchup shortcut or anything that requires sketchup to open, my entire computer hangs. After a few
seconds, my mouse could not move on the screen as well. (ctrl+alt
+delete won't work). Thus, forcing me to manually to restart the
computer. I need guaranteed and quick help, thanks.

 

First thing in trying to solve this, is to ensure that the latest video drivers are installed in your system. As well as the latest DirectX.

Has that been taken care of?

 

Should be since i am able to play 3D online games but anyway how can I check?

 

If you say "should be", then perhaps you have not updated them in a while

There needs to be "NVIDIA Control Panel" icon inside the Control Panel. Once in there, click Help -> System Information, and there you will see driver version.

GeForce drivers version 190.38 (dated July 21, 2009) are listed to be the latest drivers for your system.

 

haha thnx my version is 182.50, tats bad...

 

worse...a blue screen of error popped out and now my nividia driver is gone.

Have you uninstalled previous driver before updating and rebooted system?

 

opps...nope i just ran the update with the previous version still on, but the nvidia driver seems to be gone. I checked with the control panel and they told me to reinstall the driver.

 

You should completely uninstall driver with its uninstaller. Then reboot.

It is also a good idea to run Driver Sweeper afterwards, to clean any possible remnants.

 

currently reinstalling the driver, hope nothing bad will pop pot.(seriously need to clean my registry after this haha)

Did you come back to your previous driver?

If so, and if you want to update to a newer driver version, you need to uninstall your current driver first, reboot, and then install the newer one.

Oh. Have you tried starting Sketchup then? Any luck running it without freezing?

no progress, still hangs. Last time it worked but some time ago this problem appeared and i used different user profiles and it worked. but now all profiles cant work

found the problem, my firewall. PCtools firewall somehow blocked it.
