well techinchally its only 1761MB (1.72GB) as of right now (9:35PM eastern time) :p but apparently they are going to keep it growing. I guess they realized that very few people will actually fill the whole alloted space, so they can give 'more' to everyone

Yeah, it was going up all day to end at 2 GB. They have announced the plan to increase it more in the future as needed. Mine currently is at 2057 MB and I'm using 4% of it (which is actually a lot of mail).

If you look at the sign in page, you can watch the storage capacity increase. It keeps going and going and going...

amazing that people can let go of their privacy for free e-mail with big space....the day yahoo is not enough for me, the day I start purchasing viagra thru e-mail ads. :D

I've got fifty Gmail invites to offload. Please take them before they go rotten and start to smell.

I highly doubt the privacy thing over Google's advertisements. I believe it's just a web-side program that scans the words of your email and does very quick Google searches to see you stuff. But, yes, it's kind of unsettling at times.

That's funny. Yahoo and Google both do the same things with your information. If you have a concern about privacy using Gmail then you should not use Yahoo either.

Besides, there are no guarantees of privacy anywhere on the internet. You put your privacy at risk the minute you connect to it.

To my knowledge Yahoo does not scan your e-mails for relevant words so they can show you ads and/or have their affiliates send e-mails for advertising purposes like gmail does hence the potential for spam-mail regardless of what you do...

I suggest you go read the Yahoo mail privacy policies again. Many times they mention the "right to screen content". They may not use it for targeting ads (at this time - just wait), but they "may" screen which has the same effect of privacy invasion that you are worried about.

Gmail does not provide any information from an email to outside sources and affiliates do not send email advertisements, it is only used to put relevant links next to the email as you read it. It's actually quite nice. Here is a quote from the policies for you:

"We never share your personally identifying information with any advertiser as part of this service, unless you specifically ask us to do so. When you are logged into your Gmail account, Google will display targeted ads and other relevant information based on the content of the email displayed. In a completely automated process, computers process the text in a message and match it to ads or related information in Google's extensive database. No human reads your mail to target ads or other information without your consent."

Anyway, email is not secure is any way shape or form so take off the tin foil hat. If you are that concerned about privacy, stay off the internet.

Gmail has the best built-in spam filtering service I've ever used. I never get spam in my inbox. Ever.

not to mention the yahoo "Beacon" that follows and reports your every move... also on the privacy page...

That's the smiley next to yahoo addresses isn't it? When did they start doing that, I just noticed it a few days ago. I only use that mailbox for doing my internet crap. GMail is definitely the way to go.

Busting up....I love getting people going, especially those who are just as opiniated as I am... :D Just giving you sh*t Jamiko. I agree with all you comments, especially the fact that there is no 100% security and privacy when your PC communicates thru Internet, that is sad but true.
I didn't know about Yahoo beacon though... but I have been manipulating hotmail, yahoo and doubleclick cookies once in a while, I think they put me on their sh*t list already... :D

PS. Gmail is really good, no spam whatsoever but I miss them viagra e-mails.... now I'm feeling a bit lonely! :( :p

also, be careful about displaying your email address like that in a forum, to avoid spam, its best to post it as j_andrea1 AT yahoo.com or something like that
