My worst nightmare, been water-cooling for about a year when my monitor suddenly went blank. Rebooted, on the third try monitor worked fine then blank again. Opened case to find moisture around the agp slot, the card sits directly under the cpu water block and a flexed hose connection was the source.
Removed the card to find corrosion on 2 of the gold contacts and crusty stuff around a couple of the doohickeys on the card just above the contacts.
I cleaned both the card and the slot with my tears, then non conductive electronic cleaning spray, allowed everything to dry and fired it up, it worked until I shifted the case upright, then it failed again.
Removed the card again and decided I had a contact issue as the gold contacts that I cleaned were missing some of the gold that was either corroded or removed during cleaning. I then tried to repair the contacts with a conductive pen, making sure to color between the lines and now get no response from the card when tested. The machine and monitor work fine with an old pci card, I do not have immediate access to another machine to test my agp card on.
I am holding out hope that since I was getting intermittent response from the card that there is a possibility that it is salvageable. Any help or sympathy would be greatly appreciated….

a possibility that it is salvageable ???

I don't think so, you knows water and electronics NOT a good mixe.

Does you warranty for your card expired...may be you can exchange your cards...

When you turned the case up the right way you may have dislodged some liquid that could have been trapped in the AGP slot, liquids do tend to bead and find small nooks and crannys to lodge in.. so remove the graphic card again and any other hardware that could have been affected by the water and allow then to dry in a warmish room for 12hrs or so... then try again.

as Clark said you may well have an unsalvageable card as the contacts seem to have eroded as you said.

well if the contacts are missing, where you cleaned them you could be in a bit of a bind. If ALL else fails, AND you have a junkish computer laying around you could try and touch up those contacts with some solder. make sure you do this on a junk board not the good one to avoid shorting out the AGP slot. Also make sure you use a proper temp and a little bit of solder, as its only missing by a little bit.

Unfortunately after all of this work, the card may last ten minutes before something shorts out or it could last another ten years, with water damage there is no way to tell.

    Keep us informed.

Thanks for the encouragement, Halo's scenario sounds very plauseable, and I think you are all probobly right about the fate of my card, your answers have prevented me from continuing to endanger my primary machine with further experimentation and I will kep y'all posted. So has anyone else heard the rumors about a Nvidia 7800 processor available for agp?........

    Thanks again

... actually water and electronics are a great mix.... as long as they aren't powered.... most of the time you just let em dry out and voila.:)

time for a new card, and whats with the high power cooling rigs man? man i must be "old school"
