Now then you lot. If anyone can solve this one, you can rate yourself above Dell Corporate and my service guy!

    1. I re-installed WXP and all updates(including IE7)/programs and reinstated all my backed-up data to my main machine after installing new HD.
    2. Plugged in my Dell Inspiron 1300 to my network cable and my network and broadband screens popped up as usual in the laptop and main machine trays.
    3. Opened Outlook on the lap to check mail and got no the connection message and then IE and got Page Cannot Be Displayed.

Here's what I/Dell Tech and my service guy have tried:

    1. Re-ran the network setup wizards.
    2. Allowed third party browsing in IE7.
    3. Pinged and ran all the check tests by sending packets.
    4. Rolled back the OS and tried again.

No joy with anything. Tray still shows network and broadband present on both machines. Network connections are shown as excellent and fully functional. Any ideas please? I think I might be going insane....

Is browsing the only thing you can't do, or doesn't the network function at all? What was the result of the ping test?

If you are running a firewall, disable or uninstall it (temporarily)

    Try resetting tcp/ip
Open a command prompt and type: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

    Thanks.
Do I disable firewall on both machines?
    Ping test came back ok.
How do I open a command prompt? (dunce here was following phone tech for other stuff - sorry)
