Yeah Fred, I have a 22 horse John Deer garden tractor, with a cab and a SNOW BLOWER on the front. I can drive the tractor, and open up the driveway, and stay warm and dry. NOOOOO, don't do the walk behind one! I live on a very large hill, and going down is easy, coming up with that walk behind is murder! Riding is a blast!:-D

    Good one, Tux! LOL

That next storm is going South of us, so we won't be getting any.. I am just so happy to share ! But then, I'll have to remove the OLD gas in it, so I can mow grass this summer.. Oh, what can I say???:-D
Here is what I use: It can really move the snow... That is, when we have snow! This pic is from Dec. ;)

Thats just it though, I know most of the UK is not equipped for snow.
But there's no need for how they react.
We don't have snow chains here, I drive on all weather tires which help a little but it's not hard to drive in a few inches of snow, you just have to take it easy.

It makes me laugh here how the first snow fall there are hundreds of accidents, I think to myself "This happens every year people, WTH are you doing?"

My first experience driving in snow on the wrong side of the road lol, I had a round trip of 5 hours, at night with snow comming down hard and already upto an average of 4 inches on the road and drifts upto 3 feet.
It was tiring but I got us there and back safely.

Having said all that, when snow is down, the rules change and shit happens very suddenly.

On a lighter note, I saw 5 young dear crss the road yesterday , fallumped across the road in front of me and twoddled off into a snow covered field...THAT is why I love snow, it's just so purdy :-D

Wow . . . I was thinking of getting up a Geek donation system to get a pair of snow-boots to Dyamond - but now we need to add an emergency airlift for Laura! 14 - 20 inches? Yikes!

We stand to get six more by tomorrow evening, I hear, but that's nothing compared to you guys!

Stay inside and play on the computer, I say!

Well here we go with round 2 or is it 3 or 4. I've lost count this winter.
I could stay at home with 6" - 12" expected or at work (which is 30 miles east) with 10" - 20" expected.
Hmmm, decisions, decisions. (This :crap is for the birds.)

I wish we'd get some more snow fall then what were getting now. Today/Tonight only 1 - 1.5 inches. I miss the 6 inches or more.

Considering the modern nanny state, the health and safety culture, and the inability of anyone in the UK to drive in snowy conditions, coupled with councils running out of road grit very quickly all leads to one conclusion - a shut down country.

This storm will miss us too up here.:) We've had our share of the stuff these past couple of years, but then we have to deal with below normal temps when it doesn't snow. Stay safe folks.

I know, I know, but whatever happened to "We're British and we deal with whatever is thrown at us"?
The British Bulldog spirit seems to be dying with all the WW2 vets.

Personally I'm a proud Brit and try to keep it alive, I say whatever is going to happen........ Bring it On! :strong

Right now is like the calm before the storm (literally, I guess). The sun is out and it's warm (above freezing..woohoo!) with no wind. I took Oscar for a long walk since he won't go out in the yard because it's too deep. I may have traumatized him for that picture. LOL

It's hard to believe this scourge is going to start later on.

not only that but with ride hight of the ambulances they would be not dealing with the damn speed humps we have either, on that Tuesday in early Jan we had that few inches fall in matter of hours, the amount of cars I noticed getting stuck trying to get over the humps.

Well most councils do have the equipement to deal with snow, but the amount of meeting and quangos needed to make a simple decision to go get plows out (know here we have the attachments for many council wagons in a dept, and we not normally a city for snow) or any available diggers, bobcats etc... but no its like "bob we have snow what shall we do, mmmm dunno bob, I must ask bob, bob says he doesnt know either"

But as mentioned, I bet half of the problems now are lack of planning and wrong folk in leadership and the health a safety laws going, well we cannot send a plow out as it may crash or the driver get cold!

Main saving grace here in my city was the local city train network, the boss of that needs a medal for thinking hey we have snow forcast what shall we do, I know lets keep the trains running up and down the track all night with the track cleaning locos in between, it ran perfectly, so much so I left car and home and walked to the station (45min walk mind), but safer than braving the roads.

On the roads, I also think a main issue is many of the drivers these days have never driven in snow, I was in my early 20s last time we had snow similar to this if not slightly worse, so its too many drivers panicing and driving too fast for the conditions as well as not knowing how to manage a car on snow and ice.

    WE GOT SNOW!!! :hyper

Beautiful sunshine yesterday, nightfall with a little light dusting and this morning 4-6 inches of lovely snow!!

Straight out of bed and sprung into action :major
Didn't even bother with coffee lol
Turns out someone stole my snow shovel DoH! so had to use normal shovel which I'm sure didn't do much for the paintwork on my car :-D

Drove the wife to work, got home , pulled handbrake turn perfectly into driveway, walked in house.......slipped on floor, banged elbow on door.... IT IS NOT AMUSING IN THE SLIEGHTEST!!! rolleyes lol

@Halo... The whole train thing, excellent idea, the guy deserves a medal, or a higher postition, maybe he's not afraid of leaves either lol

@Tux... Yeah thanks for pointing that out lol, although the wind we have here it's pretty much comming sideways lol

I was watching the new this morning and they were talking about how they needed real snow. They are trucking the snow in right now. I think they are to get some though in the next day or two.

Thats what someone else could have said :p

Actually, just out of curiosity, how much did you charge per driveway? Presuming it was driveways/paths you were shoveling.
Trying to get my boy to do it but not sure what it's worth.

snow has slowed here in upstate NY since yesterday's big storm. Takes me about an hour to shovel and clear, but I love it: just rev up the ATV and plow baby plow. :major best part of the day.
Wish everything else was that simple! :)

All right you dang Canadians!!! Your snow for skiing is falling in the South US.:-D Has been snowing here in Northern Louisiana since about 2PM. They are predicting 3-4" tonight, with some areas getting 5". It was snowing in Baton Rouge today!

And sure, that much is nothing for you crazy northerners, it shuts down our state. They closed a lot schools today until next week.

Dang global changing, or climate warming, what ever it is. :-D

Spirits and wine, yes, got that. Most of those are some nice older wines, I am saving them for special occaisions. Scotch: check, Irish Whiskey: check, Rum: check, American Whiskey, check, Port: check. :-D

But, unless it is a vintage beer, I like my beer fresh. So I keep a cooler of it 1/4 of a mile down the road. :-D

Dyamond, snow in the south is much more fierce. Even the rumor of a possible snowstorm can close schools and such. So, 3" of snow here, is the same as 3' up in the north. :-D
