dyamond, I reckon I'd be there if I had the price of a plane ticket. But I'd guess I'd have to bring my own shoe box?

Halo, that's the Pinnacles, about 150 miles north of Perth.

The tree is also from the same region. There is a stretch of land south of Geraldton which is quite flat, so all the trees are like this. Actually, there are spots around Perth where you can find trees which sport a tilt. Nothing quite like this, though.
These are both my own photos. I probably have them at a res good enough for a wallpaper shot, somewhere in the collection. I'll start hunting.

    Hi PF

Many thanks for that, really fantastic place. Great pics for being your own, show depth and in the Pinnacles one a sureal atmosphere.

These photos are about 20 years old. When I moved from Melbourne to Perth I spent a week in Geraldton visiting the Pinnacles and other local scenic spots. Good thing I did too, because I've never found the time to get back there since.
I went through the Pinnacles on the local tour bus in the late afternoon. We had the area all to ourselves and it was utterly quiet, not even birds chirping. The seamen of 300-400 years ago who sailed down the western coast of Australia couldn't land in this area but I'm told that one of them reported seeing what he thought was the ruins of a city - if so, he was undoubtedly talking about the Pinnacles. With the sky clouded over, except for a clear strip along the horizon that let through the setting sun, the place had a real Sodom and Gomorrah - or Dresden or Hiroshima - feel about it.
I've found the disk and there are a few other shots from the Pinnacles on it. I'll post a few in low res on a new thread and maybe you can advise me the easiest way to deliver the bigger versions.

I see you people in the N.E. are getting another 16" or so of global warming!

I will, with all sincerity, say, better there than here!:-D:-D:wave

:( Supposedly that's what we are to get. Right now it's stopped, but we're supposed to get smacked with it tonight. I'm supposed to fly out of Philly tomorrow evening for a weekend Photography workshop and am really upset at the good chance of the flight being canceled.

    thanks

I keep forgetting to grab my camera to take some pictures of the snow drift I drive through every day on my way to work. It's over 8 feet tall on one side of the road and around 5 feet or so on the low side.

maybe this weekend I will remember to grab the camera and try to brave the wind for some landscape shots.

Boring weather here. It's been warmer than usual since New Year's. What snow we had is gone. The ski hill isn't great, but better than Cypress Mtn, if you know what I mean.
However, lack of snow equals great deals on ski equipment.

We're having some gorgeous weather for a change. Finally see the yard again. Time to get out and do the daily biking again. :)
