woohoo... after months of being jobless having quit my security job (out of concerns for my safety) I got a phone call from Liberty Mutual Insurance company about a week and a half ago. I submitted my resume to them back in the winter and go figure it took 6+ months for them to get back to me. A recruiter from their Iowa office called me and conducted an impromtu telephone interview with me which went well. They forwarded my information and the go ahead to interview to the local manager near me and now I have an interview set up for Wednesday @ 1.

Hopefully this is the break I've been looking for. I've been quite discouraged lately because I busted my hump to graduate with high honors from college back in January and the job market has been very unforgiving to bright college grads with not alot of specialized job experience.

The job is for a Claims Case Manager Trainee for their Workers Compensation department. And from what the recruiter explained, I would be handling cases, conducting interviews with people filing claims, talking with doctors, lawyer and the bosses/manager of the people who filed the claims. What's even better is that I'll be working with Investigators for the company that actually go and do surveillance of these people filing the claims to make sure they aren't scamming the insurance company. Having watched shoes like Maury, and Sally, and Jenny Jones I always told myself it would be cool to be those guys doing the surveillance and police work type of stuff.

I'm very good at communicating with people and I do have a strong work ethic that carried over with me from my high school/college days so I feel this is a job i could excel at. And the potential to work towards promotion to an Investigator is encouraging. Best yet, the job IS NOT located in Washington D.C. where I absolutely refuse to work or commute to. Job pays higher than alot of the jobs I've been interviewing for so that's also a plus. Hopefully I can get some sort of employee discount on my car insurance do because I use Liberty Mutual for that.

For preparation I'm going to have a sit down with my older sister who has good work experience and experience interviewing people for where she had worked. We're gonna go over a bunch of questions I've been asked on past interviews and think of the best responses and rehearse them. I present myself fairly well at interviews so if I can memorize what I want to convey ahead of time I think i'll do well.

    Wish me luck!

Sounds wonderful.!!! I have watched those shows, too, and thought it would be fun. I wouldn't have the skills, though.

Good luck and my fingers are crossed.

Way to go and all the very best for the interview next week :)

Tip: Learn about the company...visit their website and drop that into the conversations...shows interest.

Not sure how watching shoes is going to help you though ;)

lol I know, I mean those shows opened my eyes to the fact that there is even a job that does that... Prior to seeing it I thought only police did that type of reconnoissance/surveillance work.

Thanks for all the kind words... I will definetely read up on the website before I go in...

Well.... the interview had gone VERY well and having emailed the person who interviewed me to thank them for their time, i was told that i interview very well (which was promising to hear)... They finally called me back 4 days after they said they would... My future boss told me that the other person they interviewed had more experience but that she turned down the job... so it's MINE :D

and to my surprise, my starting salary is almost $3,000 more than what the recruiter initially told me on the phone...

Am i the only one who gets anxious at the thought of starting a new job? Something about having to acclimate to a new working environment and not knowing exactly how to do your new job makes me apprehensive... Hopefully (having never made more than $11 an hour at any job) this will be a new turning point in my life.

Seems congratulations are in order. Good on ya!

Nah, you're quiet normal in that respect. Never did start a new position that I didn't fell apprehensive about. Kind of keeps you on your toes, LoL!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words... Due to bureaucratic red tape, I won't start until mid October. I will be in the local office for 2 weeks being oriented and then fly to Boston for 2 weeks of training at corporate headquarters.

Hope they train me well, I need to feel confident in what I do but I guess that won't happen until I receive a few months of training & instruction.
