Major blunder by the revenue and customs department in the UK; with 2 discs containing details of every person who claims child benefit going Missing in transit!

Details of 25 MILLION people have gone missing rolleyes

The information consists of Parents/Guardians/Carers personal details; name, address,DOB,phone, employment and full banking details.

The government knew that the 2 discs went missing 9 or 10 days ago and the police were informed. But not us, the people that it affects.:mad

The banks advice to anyone affected is not to contact them, but just to watch out for any unusual activity!!

    The story is here:

This sort of thing is par for the course, Grumbles. There will be no-one found accountable and in two months the whole issue will be forgotten. Unless of course, either political party feels they have something to gain from keeping it alive. In the word of the old "Police" song "Every step you take, Every move you make, Every vow you break, I'll be watching you" The government knew the details already. Any third rate hacker could have got them with a bit of effort. How big a deal is it?

I remember a couple of these stories. One was a huge banking/credit card organization and one was the government.

I'm thinking no one is immune.

Not all that unusual. Had an incident a while back over here, where a storeroom full of highly sensitive Social Security documents were found - unshredded, and in plain text, for anyone to read. Seen classified military documents just on the dump. The complacency and lack of security of large companies and Govt. agencies never ceases to appal me.

I read recently some laptops were stolen that may contain personal data on thousands of US Military personnel dating from the 1970's up to the present . . .

    Sheesh.

For non-UK people......a national insurance number is the same as having somene gain access to your social security number....

Personally I see the humorous side of this, but that's a whole different story in itself :D

    MISSING DATA INCLUDES...
    National insurance number
    Name, address and birth date
    Partner's details
Names, sex and age of children
    Bank/savings account details

Maybe its because I know Lev well, but I didn't take her comment as such, just that she saw an amusing side to all of this. Lev is not one to be malicious, and to jump to such conclusions...
