I am considering a GPS for my upcoming birthday. Seems Google Navigation on Android is adept in directions in circles. [ 1.2 miles West, then left and .3 miles South then 1.2 miles East has been the choosen route twice]

I have read of Garmin Vs TomTom VS Magellan and am curious of some real world recommendation from the fellow geeks. :major

    Hi

I prefer Garmin above all the rest, and I've been using GPS's for years. It's worth the little extra money to get the Lifetime Maps Upgrade edition of whatever model you get though, since updating the maps every year adds up fast. Garmin has a VERY sleek looking new model series, which I wish I could justify buying. I have a Garmin Nuvi 600 or 700 series, I forget. SD card slot is very helpful, the Bluetooth phone features are nice, I could go on. Get a Garmin!

I myself own a garmin and it was a great deal, i bought mine for only 100 bucks at Best Buy. The directions are very accurate and will get you to where you need to go. I just drove from Vermont down to Florida last month and it worked like a charm. If they sell them anymore, the Garmin Nuvi 1100 is definately worth buying. But now they come out with models which have spoken street names.

I've had a Mio c220 for a few years now, and I like it. It's showing it's age now, so I think its time for a new one. I got mine before it was easy to get updates and such, so the maps are a little outdated. I will keep an eye on this thread as well. I'm not up on the specific hardware and map software out there now, but when I purchased mine, the trend seemed to be that any gps with the sirf III gps chip was the "best". i'm sure things have changed since then.

I just use either the maps app on my iPhone, or GPSLite. No need to have a seperate gizmo, now that the droids & iPhones have the capabilities.
