    Thinking about getting this system:
TomTom XXL 540TM 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic & Maps Edition) by TomTom

Anyone have some suggestions or recommendations?

I would suggest going down to your local store and checking out a Tom Tom vs the other guys. Doesn't have to be the same model, but that would be best. What you want to do is try out plugging in destinations. One will be more intuitive than the rest. Try out just a single destination, then try out multiple destinations. Also look for something along the route once you've created it (you're going to need some food on your way to the family reunion, after that you realize you'll need gas, etc...).

Assuming that a map is a map and directions wouldn't be drastically different from the various models this would be the biggest difference. Lifetime Traffic & Maps updates is worth $100 http://www.amazon.com/TomTom-Lifeti...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327695838&sr=1-3 so if you're trying to choose between one with and one without you have a reference how much you'll save.
