Managed to get a grant of about £8.000,00 :-D to set up IT classes in our village hall. We are going to buy 10/12 lap tops, and a couple of printers and a really good secure storage cabinet. I envisage the classes as being very basic to start with; I have been able to get our local adult learning college to provide tutors. There will be a need to set up a broadband connection, of some description. I would be grateful for any advice from Major Geeks about laptops, software licences and methods of keeping people from introducing nasties, I may even have to get people to sign some kind of disclaimer.
Maybe J.O.T.S could come and help. promis not to let anyone swipe his bike :-D

    Hi Tony

Thats great on the grant, if you want various suggestions to the technical questions pop them in various threads in the correct forum area, like Laptop suggestions in hardware and software in software (oh that one was a given!).

On donations or grants side of things, see if one of the ISPs that cover your area will donate broadband, you never know until you ask? you also find at times many software companies are willing to supply products in NFR versions (Not For Resale) if you at least mention them on a website or in literature.

Good Job, Tony, I think Halo has a good point there. You can put the feelers out all over, because companies will donate even if it just for the advertisement alone that they did donate. Lots of companies do that here. It is cheap advertising on their part. They donate, and all you have to do, is have a sign, or acknowledgement of what they donated, so other people that use the program, and like it, will be interested in buying that product, or software.

Good Luck, and I hope it works out for ya! ;)

Nicely done Tony. My ISP is BeThere, I know they like to get involved with this sort of thing. It may be worth giving them a try. I've been with them for years, I signed up even before they started operating so have a good relationship. I can have a word if you like, just PM me. :)

Good for you, mate. Glad to hear of the success of your application. This country needs more selfless folk like you.
Halo's suggestion is a good one. Go for it, shy bairns get nowt.
Best of luck with your endeavours.
I noticed that you are shopping for a cabinet to store your hardware in. Try Liverpool F.C., looks like their trophy one will be empty for another year. LOL
