Graphic card maybe on its way out..

thoughts please..

basicly over the last few days while playing EQ2 (i played window mode) the game suddenly freezes for about 5 to 10 seconds then, the only way to explain it is you know when you change the screen res in a game or desktop, and the moniter kinda turns its self off (resyincs) then comes back on ? well its doing that, some times it does it twice, then the game runs fine, sometimes the moniter stays in the off position! and i have to reset, the PC is not locking up, so i think it must be card related...

also, i have noticed that some times the game gets real slow. i thoguht this was lag to start with, but if i exit the game and reenter it everything is back upto speed and playing normal.

the card is capable of playing the game fine, so any ideas?

the card is a ATI 9800pro, i am using the latest Omega drivers for it, i updated these 2 days ago as i thought it might be driver relaited.

 

It maybe a power supply issue i old is your PC power supply if it's more then 3 years maybe time to change.

If not enough power to your graphic cards then all sort of thing could happen...

 

hi, well i built this PC about 2 years ago and everything has been fine, cant remember exactly what the PSU is but it i think it was around the 400 mark.

ive only just started to have this problem, the likes of HL 2 seem to be fine, and it does not do this in EQ2 all the time, its just every now and again. some tmes i can play it for "a good few hours" and have no problems, then, i can be on it for 20mins and it happens.

 

check to see if the fan is running on the card

 

fan works, card is clean, could be a faulty PSU im thinking now.

but its not constant, there is no patten to it, its very random.. anyway..
