    Hi Guys,
an old Noob looking for a little advice please. I am using a ati HD 4600 - 512 MBs. Now it is an express slot, atleast that is what I think the name is. so, when I install it, I cannot get the one part to slide down completly to the pc case, in order to put the small screw in to hold it in place. The same did apply to a sound card I had in. At the moment I am using a half inch long screw for this. I wonder if this might be the reason I keep getting put back to desktop during a game. I hope this is not too trivial for you to be bothered with.

    Thank you anyway.

    Hi,
I think that you just need to be a little more braver in applying pressure when inserting the card into the PCI e slot, place the card in tghe slot and press at the plate end first then press firmly all way along, you should hear a click when it is securely fixed.

Can we safely assume you've carefully looked at the contacts edge of the video card and the slot and can see that the card does, indeed, match the type of slot you're trying to put it in.

Most vga slot have a kind of (green) stopper which has to click into a small hole on the card near the slot. Need to press cards in until they fit well.

    Hi Lucky,

If you are using a 1/2" screw then you must be talking about an AGP slot. That connector will usually have a latch at the back to engage the back of the card. That card will have a notch in the contact end on one end, the other end or both. If it's both then it will fit any AGP slot. If not then the notch must match the connector. The notch in your card must not match the connector to stick that far up. Only other thing I can think of is that the tab on the bottom of the slot cover is not going into the notch at the back of the case. Other VGA cards fit into a PCI slot of which there would be at least two and maybe up to about 6. MAYBE!

    Good Luck, Jim

Thanks very much Guys for your quick replys. I was looking at a brill dvd called Comp TIA. I downloaded quite a few. One thing was mentioned which I thought might be my problem. The small pegs, [ God I forget the name ] but they screw between the motherboard and the case. I wonder if I needed them in and forgot to install them. I guess I would have got a short if I did that ?. So thank all of you you Guys, I bought a lovely new case, dropped in price, From a shop, called Cmoss. I shall check the case and make sure if I need the stop pegs. I really appreciate the help you gave me and it did not go in one ear and out the other. All the best.
