Graphic to Text version while doing WU?

Hello,

Has anyone changed from Graphic to Text while in the middle of a WU before? Read somewhere (think stanford page) you can do it without interrupting WU, but doing another beta so figured I would check first. Hoping text will go faster with the betas.

Yea I know, I meant to do it before it started the new one, what do you think? Should I just wait?

If you go to your route directory and under program files you will find the "Folding&Home" folder if you delete the "Graphic Client" it should leave the "Work" folder intact. You can then install the "Console Client" which should insert itself into the "Folding@Home" Folder. To be sure just you can rename the "Folding&Home" folder and copy it to another source, this way you will not lose anything, just do not put the renamed file back on your Primary drive or the two clients will run. You can then transfer the "Work" folder to the "Console Client" folder. Been awhile since I've done it Cat, but thats what I seem to remember. Anybody else

Sorry its called the Console...not the Text Client, brain tired this weekend.

 

The only thing I don't like about the console is it takes up space on the taskbar and I haven't found a way to minimize it to an icon. I have since been running it as a service, out of sight out of mind though I have to make sure the CPU is not running too hot when the room is warm, like today.

 

I have run both, and would, and do still recommend the "Graphic" client for numerous reasons, the only thing I dislike about it is you can't do a few tweaks that you can with the Console Client ( but I am still looking). I love the fact that at any time you can shut the Graphic client down and save your work. Yes, you can do it with the "Console" client too, but its like Auggie pointed out the "Icon" is not there, and outa sight outa mind is too true for most.

So for most I still say go for the "Graphic" client versus the "Console" client unless you want to become a "Super Folder" and then remember you are competing against Geeks that have banks of computers folding and for them it is a quest to see how high they can get.

Now don't get me wrong I applaud the fantastic effort they are making to "Folding", and we learn so much from them, when and if they share their "secrets" with us. But have found that they are like the "Pro" anythings, they seldom divulge any info to us lesser mortals, and if they do most of us do not understand a thing they are saying.

Folding for me, is a way I can help science to hopefully find a cure, the credits we receive are cool and it is nice to see yourself climb the list, and yea I like to tease someone as I overtake them. But I have seen some that have been teased just quit because they feel like a Lesser Folder, which just defeats the whole "Folding" ideal. If we could get ever computer user to "Fold" just one WU a month, just think of what could be accomplished.

Well change worked an Console is working, think I prefer Graphic too. IMHO unless you really like to play with software and curious like me or a MG, I would stay with Graphic Client it's easy to run. I will most likely change back after WUs done.

I messed up tho, did not close internet connection - it went an got a new WU while I was messing around with console. It is working only on new and logged the old one...so hoping it will restart after I finish this one. I will figure it out

My curiosity will get me in trouble one of these days, sorry if I was a pest and thanks for all the info, hopefully I did not lose my other WU with my curiosity.
