Depends what will burn a hole in your pocket.

I got a AT Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB for £99.95 (thats about 6 million dollars :)) about six months ago, so they should have gotten a little cheaper. I really like the card - gets reasonable scores and the one I got (from HIS) came with an Arctic Cooling fan!

What sort of price you looking at?

9800 Pro is a good deal. I have one it runs HL2 well.

Or if you're an Nvidia person, the 6600GT is good bang for buck. :)

With video cards you get what you pay for. I have an nvidia 5950 and its not a top of the line card but still decent and can probably be found pretty cheap. Might try newegg for the best prices.

NO NVIDIA NO NO NO! :)

To be fair just get the most expensive card you can afford with the company you prefer! I prefer ATI, but may have to abandon them soon, when I want to run two cards in tandom because ATI crossfire technology is a bit too "beta".

If you give us an idea of your price bracket Im sure people will chuck some names your way.

For that price your stuck with a Nivida 5200. Low end but I have one and do well with HL2/Doom and COD. Your options in that range are very limited.
