"The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported."

This happened when I turned on my Windows 8.1 laptop today. I entered my password, the wheel spun around for ages and then that message appeared. I clicked OK, returned to the login screen, and was able to login successfully. But I don't want that happening again, so is there a quick and easy fix for this?

    Open an elevated Command Prompt.
Copy and paste the following code.
    Code:
    cmd /c reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\gpsvc" /v Type /t REG_DWORD /d 0x10 /f
    Press Enter and restart.

Thanks for translating all that stuff into English for me. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked. I opened an Administrator Command Prompt, copied and pasted that code and hit Enter like ya said, but I got a message saying ERROR: Access is denied.

My bad ... point is did you restart?

 Actually reading what people have actually said can be a great help.

Of course I didn't restart. I got an error message I wasn't expecting. Why would I restart when I was expecting things to go smoothly? I got an error message and immediately came back here.

If you got the error in the cmd box then
    You didn't do that correctly.

You right click the command box window and select Run as administrator.
Don't assume that because your account on the computer is an "administrator's" account that it is THE administrator's account. MS tends to confuse the issue by assigning the word administrator to an account but the account doesn't have Full power.

There's no option to run as administrator when you right-click the Command Prompt WINDOW itself. You have to right-click the Command Prompt option in a menu to do that. And I DID do that. I know how to open an elevated Command Prompt. I opened my Classic Start Menu, selected Programs and then Windows System and from there, Command Prompt. I right-clicked, selected Run as administrator, clicked Yes on do you want the program to make changes or whatever, and the Administrator Command Prompt appeared. It said

    C:\Windows\system32>

I copied and pasted the exact code Eldon gave me, hit Enter, and got ERROR: Access is denied.

Okay, I wasn't exactly certain when you saw the error.

I actually have a shortcut to an admin command prompt on my desktop so I simply click that.

8.1 in its default state - i.e. no Classic Shell - has Command Prompt (Admin) on its right click start icon.
