I got the lightsnake which plugs into my usb port and then plugs into my guitar, it works fine. But what i bought it for was to see the notes I am playing on my computer screen for a teaching tool. Does anyone know of anysoftware that does this?

I don't know about software that recognizes the notes you play, not even sure if that exists.
I used to use Guitar Pro for writing and learning music, it works on the tab or notation format.
There are a few other software progs too, Line 6 make some good software so you might want to search their website although I think most of it requires the hardware too.

I used to use Guitar Port with Gearbox software for fx and emulations, Guitar Pro for writing and learning. And I used to use Cool Edit Pro for recording, but I understand Cubase is much more proficient for that now.
