Let me preface this by saying this was not my fault, another member of my family infected my laptop and he has since been dutifully warned about certain sites.

I've followed Read & Run, got rid of several problems manually, but:
    + MB Anti-Malware won't run
    + ComboFix won't run

so here are the logs from the other progs, thanks in advance.

    Hi there and welcome :)

I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in the next post I make.

You currently have no anti-virus installed. By not having that protection you are leaving yourself wide open to attacks. We will deal with this a little later on.

Also in regards to the below:

You should ideally be updating to SP3 and also updating your IE browser to IE8. But this is something you can deal with after we have given you the all clean.

Let's begin with the malware removal -

    1. If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    2. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0CF0B8EE-6596-11D5-A98E-0003470BB48E} - (no file)
    • O2 - BHO: Cole2k Media Toolbar Helper - {17965926-B1C0-4302-A699-FF6345EA3148} - C:\Program Files\Cole2k Media Toolbar\v2.0.0.2\Cole2k_Media_Toolbar.dll (file missing)
    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - (no file)
    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - (no file)
    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C84D72FE-E17D-4195-BB24-76C02E2E7C4E} - (no file)
    • O20 - AppInit_DLLs: jutepeso.dll c:\windows\system32\ c:\windows\system32\pedabara.dll
    • 021 - SSODL: tukugimut - {f633fe06-37d5-4ee8-bf91-882325859203} - c:\windows\system32\jetebusu.dll (file missing)
    • O21 - SSODL: mobujewiw - {25f369ed-a552-4d31-982d-3cff746d7fc8} - c:\windows\system32\pedabara.dll (file missing)
    • O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: kupuhivus - {f633fe06-37d5-4ee8-bf91-882325859203} - c:\windows\system32\jetebusu.dll (file missing)
    • O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: jugezatag - {25f369ed-a552-4d31-982d-3cff746d7fc8} - c:\windows\system32\pedabara.dll (file missing)

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3. Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    4. Also delete all files in the below bold folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

    • C:\Documents and Settings\Keysdude\Local Settings\TEMP

    5. See if you can run Combofix. if so, attach the log it generates (c:\combofix.txt) into your next reply.

    6. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix and avenger

    7. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Thanks, Kes.

I actually use firefox, but if you feel I should update IE anyway I will.

Also, in the interim between my OP and your reply I actually got MBAM to run, so some of the problems may have been removed there. Sorry for jumping the gun.

Completed your steps, everything ran fine. As for how things are running, most of the obvious signs of infection now seem to be gone.

Here are the logs you requested:

    Good afternoon :)

    Almost there...

First thing I would like to address is that whilst I am assisting you, I would like for you to not have Limewire running at start -up, call me an old grouch but I want you to do the below before we continue:

    • O4 - S-1-5-18 Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    • O4 - .DEFAULT Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe (User 'Default user')
    • O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe

    2. Now then, I want you to run RootRepeal again because it was this that revealed the rootkit files to us in the first instance. Run it and attach the log into your next reply here.

Yes, and it reveals more problems-

    1. We need to use ComboFix again
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    kungsfxtkbnylr
    SKYNETduyfqjwt

    File::
    C:WINDOWS\system32\kungsfwsp.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\kungsfevpawwks.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kungsfiemotooq.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kungsfbdvbnogs.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kungsfioleplfh.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kungsfwrripmbb.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\SKYNETinixvspt.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\SKYNETexylqeec.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\H8SRTyusiwevxep.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTatsbeqhxij.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRToowykrgfmx.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTrreqhuwxre.dll

    FCopy::
    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\79123dd72d0f61d4ed8c7a816ed338d7\atapi.sys | C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\atapi.sys

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    2. Now run GMER again -

Running GMER with a random name.

    3. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix. and also the log from GMER.

    4. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Okay, I finally got it done. Sorry about the delay; I've had a busy week.

I hope I did everything correctly, the GMER scan looked mostly the same as the last one? Also GetLogs gave an error message about an app failing to initialize properly, I think its was procdll.exe or something like that.

    Here's the logs.

Ahhh, of course, must have been way past my bedtime ...

Your logs are clean! You can follow my final steps below now:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
