She got really sick really fast this past weekend. Not sure what happened.. but she wouldn't eat and would only drink water from my hands. She was in an awful lot of pain since Sunday and we couldn't let her endure any more.

I stayed up with her until 3 am last night just to be with her. You know how they say that hindsight is always 20/20.. well , the past few weeks she was acting kind of squirelly, like she wanted to be around us and I mean really close ALL the time. I look back on that and I think now she knew that she was getting sick.

    15 years old.. a cat in a Husky's body for sure ....

I held her head when they put her to sleep..

Thanks for listening.. it's been a rough day.

So sorry to hear about your Dog.
I know how it feels to lose a beloved pet ....they are much more than a pet...a Best Friend, and a Family Member.
Cry and don't be afraid to cry no matter where you are and who you are around.
    Get it out now.
You know you did all you could.
There is Peace now where there was Pain.
    Bless You,
    Toni

Oh Jim...my heart breaks for you....I know you don't share my deep faith but we do have some common ground in that area so I'll share this with you. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f368/star-n-abby/smilies/hug2.gif

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.

His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hey Kodo, sorry to hear this, I know what it's like to have to lose a pet, when you don't it to go.
It's funny how, you first get one and think they're with you for eternity, yet the dreaded day of losing it sticks in your mind.

Sorry to hear this bro :(

    Jim,

I am so sorry. That is the hardest thing to do. :(

I'm sure I have told it before but I had to have my Lab put to sleep years ago and I did just like you, held his head while they gave him the shot. I remember asking the vet how long it would take and I didn't even finish the sentence when I felt his head drop down. Terrible, I didn't know it would be that quick, hardly time to say goodbye.

I feel for you my friend. Take care. ;)

It is a very sad moment, I am a dog lover and have two very fine dogs. Freja, my oldest is almost sixteen, and unfortunately her bladder is going. I dread the day! Though there is nothing I can say to make you feel better. I hope you get another, not take her place, but to enjoy the companionship that these animals truly give through thicks and thins.

    Kodo,
I am truly sorry for your loss:(

I feel for you, bud. My chow is about 6 yrs old so hopefully have a few yrs to go (me or him?). My prev chow died at 14 yrs old while I was away from home. It's always tough, even for an old X-farmer like me.

Sorry to hear that. We lost our Dalmation in Oct, the house was way to empty. We adopted a Great Dane from the local Dane rescue league, she's great but will always miss our first.

    Sorry for your loss Kodo.

Sounds like she was very happy and well looked after.

15 YRS is a good innings for a Husky, and at least she is no longer in pain.

Definitely a tough day Kodo. Sorry you, and your dog, had to go through that. Painful, but the having of them is worth the losing of them. Savor the memories.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your 'family member'. It's a sad fact of life that because of the fact that we (usually) live a lot longer than our dogs and cats, that we'll have to go through several losses of our beloved pets. :(

But, like a some have said, 15 years is a long life for a Husky, so you know you all looked after her well. Guess your wife and son must be feeling it too. Whenever someone, or something that was close to me passes on, I just focus on the happy years and time we spent together. G.T.'s right. - having spent many happy years together makes it worth the pain of loss, as unpleasant as it is. Living bodies die, but memories and deeds live on.

Tough loss Kodo. We've put down a couple of cats due to old age, a couple who were sick and two that were run over. I cried for all of them. Able to move on faster.

    Oh no :(

We had to put our cat down aged 15 - it was like losing a family member for sure. I've got a photo of him on my wall. He had the most amazing charachter, and it was very strange not having him around.

    Sorry for the loss :(
