Had to replace ShimEng.dll and lots of services won't automatically start

I finally powered on my computer after a month and of course McAfee said I needed major fixing. I downloaded all the fixes and also downloaded the update to Flash Player and something else that's eluding me right now. I let it all run overnight and upon restart, many services such as svchost.exe tried to start but a window popped up saying "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ShimEng.dll is not a valid windows image." I looked at the file and noticed it and ShimGvw.dll were both 0 k in size. I renamed both of them and found new ones in their place of the proper size 64 and 428 k respectively.

Restarting again, I found that every service that tried to use the bad ShimEng.dll doesn't even try to start anymore and well, I don't know all the services that use this dll and how to start them. For example, I click on "Network Connections" in the "Control Panel" and literally not a single character is displayed in the window.

Any ideas how to get all these services to start up again? Any help would be really really appreciated! I plan on getting a new computer but I need to get at least the network services up in running in order to simply use a crossover cable to copy everything to the new one! (Of course my CD/DVD burner has not worked in a while so I can't use that as a backup tool!)
