hal.dll in windows

    hi all,

    just a question, is hal.dll the same for all the windows o/s, can i copy hal.dll from w2k to xp or is it one copy for one system,
    can i download hal.dll from the web and will it work on any system,
    i have googled it and found loads of info but nothing i have found tells me there are different versions,

    ta for any help
