Half-Life

Hello Everyone!!

I purchased H/L for my husband 2 days ago...

Our system is HP above and beyond whats needed in specks to run the game, however when he plays for say 5-8 min "downloads next scene" then its like it overloads and just shuts the entire game down..going black and then back to our desk top...Help???

Also I've been reading the board about this "STREAM" is this something u need to play this game...with both beginners so if my questions seem silly, i apologize...thanks so very much!!

 

I think steam is only nessicary for online play. However I am not sure if you can get the latest patches which would probably include fixes for your hardware that the software is currently needing.
1) Is the game running at the latest patch
2) If not, then I would go to www.steampowered.com to download steam and the setup will walk you right through setup.

 

would denfetly install Steam before you go changing the video card; since the begining of the game plays fine; sounds like a bug of some sort then a video card problem. But i agree that HP/gateway/Dell all use infirior grphx cards.

You can download steam at www.steampowered.com but steam is only needed for online play. Once steam loads it will automatically download updates for you.

I don't believe it is the video card since you are able to play the game for 5-8 minutes. I think you need the patch. I believe the latest patch is 1.1.1 but I'm not sure since I haven't played in a couple months. Once you have this patch it should run fine and there shouldn't be any problems.

And then go into "Games"

And then download the file "hl1110"

Have fun playing half life. Come back if there are any problems though.

 

Yeah, have an IBM system around here which had an Intel graphics chipset which would cause the machine to crash every few hours, just running windows. Games was just a complete no-no, it crashed when playing MS Golf!!

A PCI Radeon 9200 fixed that problem nicley, for only £40
