Happy Australia Day!!!

I saw this on my home calendar, didn't know what it was, and looked it up. So what did you Ozzies do? [edit: Australia Day was on 26 Jan (yesterday)]

Missed this thread earlier. 26th January is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet to settle the UK convicts as far away from the UK as possible. Seems like the USA whipped the UK in a war battle a few years earlier, and the UK were left with nowhere to send their convicts. OZ aborigines call it Invasion day. The day the white fellas started to invade black fella country.

What happens on 26/1, lots of barbeques, prawns (shrimps to you lot), sausages, beer.
Lot's of flag raising ceremonies. We are not so fanatic as you Yanks at flying flags. Lots of naturalisation ceremonies where folks from all over the world decide to become Ozzies after living here for years. Australia Day medals are awarded in all fields of endeavour from science, politics, community service to sports. Public Holiday. Like your 4th of July. Bazza
