Happy Labor Day!

First...enjoy the day off, for those of you in a place where that happens!

Second...Labor Day is not just a day off for picnics and parties. It is the day we should all be remembering those in organized labour who gave their time, energy, money, and sometimes their lives in the effort to give all working people a better life. Things like 40-hour workweeks, child labour laws, mandatory breaks, and minimum wages came through the efforts of ordinary men and women...and the struggle continues. These rights and privileges that so many take for granted can be taken away at any moment, and many of them are already under attack. So while you're enjoying your cookout with the family or whatever it is you do to celebrate today, please take a moment to thank those who have come before you, and who fight alongside you, for the work they've done to make your life better.

Excellent sentiments. I didn't realise that was what Labour Day was all about. We should have something like it over here. But the resentment of this government having to acknowledge that we, the workers keep the UK afloat would, I think, be too much to ask. Power to the people! And stick it to The Man at every given opportunity.

Hope y'all have a happy Labor Day weekend, folks. We have Labour Day here, but different day, (1st Monday in March), and different spelling, lol! The Union, (or labour) movement has strong roots down under, in a country used to struggle.

 

Good post there Sgt.Tibbs! I would also like to extend this to my fellow Canadians, who also have Labour Day today. We struggled as much as you all did. Cheers to all!

My voice is gone again, but it was a HUGE success (our first Labor Fest ever...with many more to come) and no end of fun. :-D There's something that doesn't suck about sitting on the grass by the river listening to killer blues bands all day surrounded by almost 6,000 people of a like mind. And we almost tripled the attendance of the previous biggest day ever at our public museum (we paid them to be open to the public for free today). I've somehow managed to get myself roped into the planning committee for next year. I think it was a mistake to head to the beer tent with my former business agent and current president of the local labour council. :banghead LOL

Yeah, I'd say that was a mistake, for sure, but sounds like you had a blast, and tripled the attendance, that is FANTASTIC! Congrats! Obviously you did something they liked, and that just means they want you again next year.. COOL! :major
