So what's your plan for the night? Doing anything, staying home?

We are (for once!) staying home for the most part. Yay! :dancer

We are going out to an early dinner at 7:30 and then coming back home for the evening. I'm looking forward to not having to be out until midnight when I don't really want to be.

Happy New Year Laura!http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/1.gif I'm too old to stay up until midnight unless I pass out early.;) I've had enough of new year cheer so it's just a quiet dinner at home now and I'll probably finish off the bottle of single malt.:wine

Sounds like the perfect evening, augie!:)

Your little cork popping emote there reminded me that I should probably pick up some champagne at least.

Happy New Year to one and all and wishing you all a wonderful and safe 2012 :)

For me Laura, its a quiet night in and will watch Jools Holland's Hootenanny program like I dis last year, tbh the city is a bit too manic for me these days and the cost of going out on NYE is a huge one I cannot justify these days... not that ££ are an issue, but it seems like a waste to me... getting old perhaps!

Sister and new to be husband and 3 nieces are going for dinner tomorrow at parents so that will be like xmas day.... manic! but fun!!

Watched the new year come in in New Zealand and Australia earlier, so had two New Years already, so a third will finish me off hahahahahhaa hic

Again thanks folks for making Majorgeeks a great place to be and help folk with PC issues and well for those fun moments, I hope 2012 is just as good.

My wife an i are the last surviving members of both families, we have outlived them all.
So Laurette and myself will have a quiet night in front of the television (probably watching Andre Rieu on German TV)

So a really happy and prosperous new year to you all and may 2012 be all that you wish for.

Sounds like we are all having the same type evening.:)

@Dave...it's been years since I've gone to a bar or club for New Years. One of our close friends always has a party that I feel like we have to attend since it's never a huge gathering. This year, no one did it. Hubby and I were thrilled.

I do remember the days of clubs for New Year. It's probably been 15-20 years for me. Even back then it was $50-75 just to get in and then 10 or more deep at the bar.

Yup Laura, we're all getting older yet wiser. I would hate to be driving along the rural roads up here tonight though I've done it but I don't even want to be on the road even if I'm sober. Last year we had a good party where we all got pissed but they stayed for breakfast.:) I learnt that the English love their bacon burnt to a crisp!:-D

From me too to all Major Geeks:

MY NEW YEAR’S WISH FOR YOU

The sun will soon be rising on the morning of another day, the first day of the New Year. What can I wish that this day, this year may bring? Nothing that shall make the world or others poorer. Nothing at the expense of other men, but just those few things which, in their coming, do not stop with me, but touch me rather as they pass and gather strength.
A few friends who understand me, and yet remain my friends. A work to do which has real value, and without which the world would feel the poorer. The return for such work, small enough not to tax unduly anyone who pays.
I wish this New Year to bring me a mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed. A heart that understands, and in understanding, better able to help you carry your load in life. May I understand the meaning of the tears that sometimes dim your eyes. May I never be the cause of that deep hurt which I have seen in your eyes.
May the New Year bring a sight of the eternal hills and the unresting sea, and of something beautiful the hand of man has made. Bring me also – and this is important – a sense of humour and the power to laugh. A little leisure with nothing to do but spin my dreams when evening descends and encloaks us in a robe of deep velvet.
I wish those who are away a speedy and safe return, and for those who return not, the reward they sought in the house of our Father. I ask also for a few moments of quiet meditation in the knowledge of the presence of God.
May I never be the cause of one tear to fall, one heart to ache, one friend to lose. And I ask for the patience to wait for the coming of these things with the wisdom to know them when they come.
And that is my New Year’s wish for you.

    Minnie Louise Haskins 1875-1957

At the Gate of the Year

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.'
And he replied: 'Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way!'
So I went forth and finding the Hand of God trod gladly into the night. He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone east. So heart be still! What need our human life to know If God hath comprehension? In all the dizzy strife of things both high and low, God hideth his intention."

I'll be staying home tonight - but it won't be a total bust.

I live in one of the very few unincorporated areas of the Houston metro where shooting off fireworks is legal (and, by "fireworks", I'm referring to anything smaller than a nuclear bomb :-D ). Since there was a statewide ban in Texas over July 4th due to the drought, ABC 13 reported most fireworks stands are doing twice the business they normally do for New Years Eve.

From 11 PM until about 2 AM, my subdivision will have a better fireworks show than many of the professional ones put on in small towns - all paid for by the neighbors. :cool

    Happy New Year Everyone! :dancer

Happy New Year to all the MG geeks! :celebrate

If I can tear The Guy away from Skyrim, we'll be celebrating the new year with a Lie To Me marathon, enjoying the 12-year old Glenlivet my father-in-law gave me for Christmas. The man has taste. :)

Happy Clean Slate, everyone. We really shouldn't need a magical calendar date to make a new start, be it weight loss, smoking, or whatever, but all the same... New year, new chances, new starts. Here's to us all. :wine

I let the new year in every year, my good lady opens the door to my knocking, stands back while I throw a collection of coins, some salt, some bread and pieces of coal before stepping into the house, she greets me with a kiss and a drink.
be interesting to know how Geeks let in the New Year.

Hope its a good one for you all in Geekland :wave

Happy New Year all. We thought we'd be home long before midnight.
Went to this restaurant for dinner, just three couples, at 7:00, then one couple went out to the casino, and the rest of us went back to our friends house at about 10:00. There they cracked the champagne, and before midnight it was all gone. A beer toast is was. After midnight my wife and I left and went to another friends house very close to where we live. There was a total of eight of us there, but we sounded like fifty. We got home at 4:00AM. NIne hours and only four beer, and I feel great today. I'm getting old.
You are a dedicated man Ned
