It's a bit early, but I'm flying out to California tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with my sister and parents, and wanted to wish all my friends a blessed Thanksgiving, at least all those that celebrate it. We all have much to be thankful for... even me. ;) :)

I hope you have a great time with your family in Cal. for Thanksgiving. I guess the Turkey won't be the only thing that's stuffed, Lol :D.

I think it's Nov. 23 this year, the day before my b/day. Canada had there's on Oct 9. We don't really celebrate it here, which is sill i.m.o., because Australia has more to be thankful for than most nations, i.m.o.

Anyway hope all of you out there have the best Thanksgiving ever. :)

And Happy Black Friday all. :D Day after Thanksgiving is the craziest shopping day of the year; start of the Christmas stampede.

Been a good week with my folks, although a very tired one. But I wouldn't have missed coming.

Will have more time to catch up after I get home Saturday night.

    Have fun all. :)

    I'm glad you had a good time, G.T. :)

For someone living in Sweden, Thanksgiving feels very remote, if I hadn't seen this thread, I wouldn't even have known it was now... I guess we don't have much to be thankful for here, this time of year, with darkness and cold that we have right now. But in a few weeks we will have the appearance of Lucia, who brings light and happiness to everyone. :)

Spending Thanksgiving with the family is the best possible way to celebrate and be thankful. Glad you had a good time with your folks. They are the most precious of times, especially with your deal in life. Nothing is better than seeing the significant others, and loved ones together and happy.

And now to rest up and take it easy for the weekend, my friend.:)

thanksgiving is not Christmas. its got something to do with starving pilgrims being fed by the natives. abe lincoln (?) made it a national holiday to 'give thanks'. turkey doesn't appear to be the mainstay of christmas in the same way it is in the UK. hope that helps. aloha

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks for the things one has at the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday in October. In the United Kingdom, Thanksgiving is another name for the Harvest festival, held in churches across the country on a relevant Sunday to mark the end of the local harvest, though it is not thought of as a major event (compared to Christmas or Easter) as it is in other parts of the world. This tradition was taken to North America by early settlers, where it became much more important.

    United States

In the United States, certain kinds of food are traditionally served at Thanksgiving meals. First and foremost, turkey is usually the featured item on any Thanksgiving feast table (so much so that Thanksgiving is sometimes referred to as "Turkey Day"). Stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, Indian corn, other fall vegetables, and pumpkin pie are commonly associated with Thanksgiving dinner.

    Canada

In Canada, Thanksgiving is a three-day weekend (although some provinces choose to observe a four day weekend, Friday–Monday). While the actual Thanksgiving holiday is on a Monday, Canadians might eat their Thanksgiving meal on any day of that three day weekend. This often means celebrating a meal with one group of relatives on one day, and another meal with a different group of relatives on another day. Although in English Canada Thanksgiving is often celebrated with family, it is also often a time for weekend getaways for couples to observe the autumn leaves, spend one last weekend at the cottage or participate in various outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and hunting. The holiday is not as significant a family occasion amongst French Canadians, however

The day of Thanksgiving, for the celebration of the harvest isn't just an American/Canadian thing. Many countries observe similar 'Harvest Days', but most don't have a special holiday for it. Similar festive days are celebrated by some in the U.K., too.
