It was only a one foot drop that stopped it all, froze my life and my cash flow. Because of my 500gb Lacie crash I can't get paid and a rather large collection of photographs from Iraq and Afghanistan are lost.

So, my drive fell off a coffee table onto the floor while it was on. I took it to a place in NY and was quoted $4,250 to recover the data. I called drivesavers.com and was quoted approx the same. So I was in Afghanistan at the time taking pictures as I do . . . When it occured to me to take it to India. After all they seem to be doing a pretty good job solving all those problems over the phone. A tech boom in a more afordable country could be the answer . . . So after visiting Pakistan and Kashmir for the earthquake I lugged the thing to India. Immediatly I visited the computer district and was tooled around with for about a week before giving up.

What I did learn is that I may be able to retrieve the data by simply finding the exact same casing and switching the drives from one to the other. Inside the drive I found that the only real damage was the circuit board, the board that partitions the two drives. So happens my lacie 500gb is of poor design and very hard to fix because of this partition.

So my question is to anyone out there that may know . . . if I proceed and switch the drives to another casing, with same model number will my problems be solved?
