Hard Drive / Boot Problems

I have just put a new CD ROM Drive in after my other one bust. After t was fitted i started it up to see if the CD ROM Drive was working properly but befor i even got to that, on the start up screen this message was displayed.

SEC Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible

Press F1 To Continue

So i press F1 and nothing happens however the mouse and keyboard dont work either.

So if you unplug the new CD does everything work still? If it does then it points the finger at the CD, the cable or how you've got the CD jumpered.

 

Ive Unplugged the CD ROM Drive and nothing new happens and it still stops on the black startup screen. The mouse or key board still dont work either.

 

Check , by removing, and replacing IDE/SATA leads to hard drive, as when installing/uninstalling it is surprising what els is disturbed.
If you were putting on an IDE cable for the new cd (I am assuming CD Rom), did you look at the jumper on the back- if you only have one CD Rom, it should be Master, if you have two, one should be set master, and the second to slave.
Another thing some cd roms (I had one like that- an MSI CDRW ) will need an atapi driver from the old school, or, will work with an update from the web.
