    Hi ,
I was going to make a post, then saw an old post
    .
I have downloaded those two programs,as I have my old disc with 57GB and my new one of 250GB,do I do a whole disc clone or a partition?(see images)
    http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/607/partitionclone.th.jpg
    http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/1153/partitionclone2.th.jpg
    http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/8889/discclone1.th.jpg
Of course I wouldnt mind just putting the used space(40.65GB) of the 57GB onto the new HD,but if I have to put the full 57GB no problem, but must it be a partition or whole disc
    Thanks :)

Yeah you can just clone the whole disk to keep it simple the free space will still be free space once you've cloned it,once its verified working, defrag it then shrink or expand the volume down in control panel, admin tools, disk management if you wish.

I cloned, then removed my old HD,and it booted up okay, and I am defragging now,but the new volume of Hd is not showing up,just the old 60GB:confused
Maybe after the defrag it will show up.
It is recognised by the computer though and says device is working properly?
    :)

Right click C: with the blue box above it,then choose expand and expand it by 17562mb.

Just wanted to point out that if the OS is XP, you cannot expand the system partition within windows. You will have to do it offline with a bootable partition manager like Gparted Live CD or the bootable version of Partition Wizard. Windows 7 does allow expanding the system partition.

Yeah I knew this but assumed it would be vista or XP then failed to notice the old disk management.:-D

Free partition manager for XP? I haven't used one in years.

Here you can use this tool to expand the volume grey buffalo while in windows and its freeware.

    Should read vista or 7.

Looks good, what should I be doing here?

    Extend and Shrink partition or
    Resize and Move partition or
Merge and Split partition or some thing else?
    :confused

Extend your primary partition so it takes up the whole drive? Extend it by the size of the free space.

    Isn't that what you want?

    Problem

after I extended my primary partition,
    I rebboted it,tried too,it said"error loading operating systen"
I did try boot it with the CD I made from Eaesus, but it did not work, the file system on there is CDFS.
I tried reinstalling my windows after I tried repair, which did not work, when I had ibstalled windows, there was nothing on my disc, all my stuff?
So I unplug the new large HD and am now back to the 60GB one:confused

    Re: Problem

I'm not sure what's gone wrong there grey buffalo I had a play with that program after I posted it,I expanded and shrunk the C: drive on my laptop just for kicks by right clicking in in the main window and didn't have any problems, other than that I can't really offer much help with it as its as new to me as it is to you.

Maybe another program would be a better option, one that a member has some experience with such as what Tgell posted:confused

I don't want to mess you up so if I have something wrong let me know.

If you have added nothing important to the large HD after the cloning AND have not changed the old 60gb HD so all your files are still there, then it may be simplest to redo the clone. But this time when you are at the screen in your first screen shot (in Easeus Todo) you can resize the partition in the second graph to include the whole HD by dragging the white section all the way over to the right to take over all of the grey area. That will do the clone but create a large 230gb partition all in one step. Since Todo had no problem creating a bootable 60gb partition it should have no trouble doing the same with a 230gb one.

If you have changed or deleted files on the 60gb HD then you might not want to reclone but try to get the large HD booting again. I'm not exactly sure how to do that (perhaps it is an MBR problem) but we could try to figure it out if you are worried about data loss.

Edit: Your first screen shot is for Partition Clone but Disk Clone works approximately the same way. The arrow you drag isn't as clearly visible but you can still grab the edge of the partition in the graph and enlarge it by dragging over to the right.

    Re: Hard drive cloning

    Hi,
i am in trouble with my hard drive again :cry and bought another hd and was wondering about cloning?
My current hd has faults,my computer on XP was shutting down,I did a reinstall, but now the sound is not working.
I re installed also all the sound devices, thought that could have been the problem :confused still no sound?
So if I do a clone will l it import all those faults onto the new HD?
