Is it possible to made an exact copy of my 80gig HD and restore it to a 500gig HD without having to create an 80gig partition on the 500? If so what software would you recommend and is there anything I should know about performing this task?

My 80gig sound slike it is on its way out.

    Thanks!!! :)

I should also mention that my 80gig is my primary HD and is my boot drive in WinXP SP2. Sorry I didnt include that info in th eoriginal message.

You can use utilities like Ghost or Acronis True Image. I still would recommend adding a partition or two, to make disk management a bit easier in the future.

Try going to the website of your 500Gb HD manufacturer. They should have a downloadable utility program for setting up a new hard drive which will include an option to copy your old boot drive.

I would also recommend more than one partition so that you can keep your OS and programs separate from your data files.
