    Hello friends,

I am an experienced hardware and software user so my problem is advanced.

I had a Data Storage hard drive (non bootable) crash on me with all of my files on it (pictures, movies, music etc...)

Now the hard drive came back online but it tells me that I need to format the drive because it has not been formated. Off course I do not want to format.

Is there anything out there that can read my files even thought the disk appears to be not formated?

    Thanks for the help,

    Be0

First, try turning off your computer and external drive completely and power back on. If you are still experiencing the same problem, the boot sector of the drive was probably damaged somehow.

You could always take it in to a professional data recovery service, but obviously those can be ridiculou$ly expen$ive - in the thousands. Which may or may not be worth it depending on the data you lost.

I've never used these software, but they seem like they might be able to help you recover the data:

    Hi Be0

As an alternative and I used this method a while back in work on one of the University lecturers PCs that had similar issue, was to download and install Acronis True Image (the trial 15 day) on a different PC and created the BootCD which is a lite version of the Acronis app.

Then with an external HDD, plugged that into the PC and then set the boot device to CDROM and booted to the Acronis bootCd and it managed to see the drive and allow me to Image the folders he wanted, then all I did was to plug the external HDD in the other PC that had the full True Image installed on and opend the image and copied all the data to the working PC.
