Hard Drive Installation As Slave

Hello, I'm getting very frustrated with trying to install a second hard drive as a slave.

I've looked at all of the jumper settings and rearranged them so that they meet the slave, but the computer is not detecting the hard drive. There are three different jumper settings that you can do. Also, when I boot up my primary hard drive is saying that it is connect as a slave, but i have it connected as a master.

I'm using the DiamondMax 9 Plus Hard Drive at 120 Gig

Also besides Jumper Settings, the slave drive should connect to the middle of the ribbon cable. Did you check the jumpers on the orginal?

What does Disk Manager say, is it listed there? You OS may not see it until its formated. Start -> Run -> diskmgmt.msc

 

I'm running Windows XP Professional Edition.

I have it connected to the middle plug. The only part that I am confused on is why would the computer be detecting my initial hard drive as being connected as a slave, when it is connected as a master.

Here is the jumper settings for my maxtor hard drive. If i'm correct, I should have no jumper on? I am also confused on the whole deal of why when I run the Maxtor setup disk, that it's not even detecting it.

Try setting the jumpers to C/S on both your old and new drives, connect the new drive @ the middle connector. And make sure your power connector seated all the way.
