Hard Drive Issue

I have a 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go External Hard Drive. At one point in time I could use it on both Mac and Windows computers. I don't know when but at some point in time it stopped working and I could no longer transfer items via mac to pc. Anyways I thoght I could solve this issue by formatting the hard drive. Now though when I plug it into a PC it won't show up on "My Computer". It will however show up under the "Safely Remove Hardware" .

Anyways the point is I want it to be able to use my hard drive on both macs and pcs. And normally I would just format it from the PC but I can't do that because it won't show up. So my only option (that I'm aware of) is to use Mac to format it.

I assume you formatted the hard drive per the link on a Mac. It formatted it with a OSX file system, HFS+, which Windows cannot read or write to. Formatting with FAT32 will allow a PC and Mac to read and write to the drive without a problem but files cannot be bigger than 4GB. If you formatted with NTFS, a Mac could read the drive but not write to it unless you install third party software on the Mac.
