My brother re-installed Windows XP because of a problem.
He has 2 hard drives. One had all his files on it, and the other was the one that stored Windows. Now that he has XP re-installed, the hd with his files is not seen in My Computer. It does show in Device Manager, but no drive letter, and says its working properly.

Is there any software that may repair the problem he's having?

Right click My Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management. Right click on the drive in question on the bold print where the drives are listed (circled in red in the attached screenshot). If 'Initialize' is available as a choice, click it. If that doesn't work, right click in the grey area (the red X in the screenshot), and see if maybe the drive needs to be assigned a drive letter. Don't worry; it's pretty much impossible to accidentally erase the drive. Windows will warn you at least twice before erasing the drive. If you see a warning that says all data will be lost, be sure to stop what you're doing! You may want to look at some of the programs in the Data Recovery section here at Major Geeks if nothing else will work. Here's the link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads38.html

Hello again. When he right clicks on it, he can't select change drive letter. Every thing is grayed out.

actually when I right click on it everything is greyed out except delete partition and help. those are the only things clickable. it says the drive is active and healthy and is working properly, Also it shows up when windows is booting however I still cant access it. I have even gone so far as to try another system install.
All this started after I ran system restore and screwed my pc up bad and I had to reinstall windows

Hmmm... try removing both the data cable and power cable from the drive (do this with the power cable removed also!). Then start up and run the PC as usual without the hard drive. Maybe reinstall your chipset drivers, do some general maintenace and some tuning up of the PC, do Windows updates, clean the registry, all that stuff. Shut down, unplug the power cord, and plug the drive back in, and reboot....
