hard drive overvoltage

I connected wrong power supply to my notebook hard drive, and probably fried it.... (connected ps for 3.5", which outputs ~12vdc - versa 2.5" ps which outputs only 5vdc) ....right now it doesn't respond to anything, is there' anything I can/could do to get data back. someone said to replace board.... or who knows what....
I just want to get my data back, if possible... without spending hundreds of dollars.

yeah usually the power goes through a board before it goes to the components, so you should be able to take the hard drive out and plug it into something else to get the data
check your manuals to find out how to get the hard drive out

 

what do you mean take it out... it has been out all the time. I had it in external case when the problem occured... and right now it does not spin or anything...

 

if it's not spinning that thing is dead ... and software isn't going to help because it can't access the drive ... the only thing you can do is take it to specialists ... im sorry i cant recommend one to you ... maybe someone else can

if you put it back and onto the proper power cord and it spins up ... then you may be able to get your data back via forensic software or simply copying it ... but from what you say im doubting that

no wait ... "ontrack" might do it ... but im not garanteeing anything .. do a search for it
