Do a right click on MY COMPUTER and click on MANAGE. When the computer management window appears click on DISK MANAGEMENT. Find your unformatted 30 gig partition and select MARK PARTITION AS ACTIVE. Once its active you will have a drive partition letter like D:. Then format your new partition and away you go.

Does indeed sound like unformatted space.
Should be fine if you follow as directed.
